Otterbein University is a private, liberal arts college, founded in 1847 and located in Westerville, Ohio. Otterbein was the first college in the nation to include women as students and faculty members. Current yearly enrollment is regularly around 3,000 students and the university offers about 70 majors. The campus encompasses 140 acres and the university boasts an 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio (About Otterbein University).
Nicknamed the "Cardinals," Otterbein athletic teams don cardinal & tan uniforms, and play as a part of the Ohio Athletic Conference in NCAA Division III. Otterbein offers 11 varsity men programs and 10 varsity women programs, as well as a full intramural program.

Otterbein Athletics Operating Principles:
- Promote and ensure the balance of high academic achievement and athletic competition within the philosophies of Otterbein University
- Provide quality educational leadership opportunities and programs to help the individual grow as a total person
- Empower personal growth by having a strong commitment to local community outreach and global engagement
- Offer instructional resources and educational opportunities to further diversify and foster a climate of inclusion

Otterbein Athletics Facilities:
- Rike Center: Home to Basketball, Volleyball, and Wrestling. Also houses a free weight area, offices for Sports Information and Football, a banquet room overlooking the court, a dance room locker rooms, storage, and laundry facilities.
- Clements Recreation & Fitness Center: Home to Athletic Department Offices and Athletic Training. Also houses a 6-lane indoor track, a student workout/cardio facility, and an infield used for basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball, and tennis activities.
- Memorial Stadium/Ballenger Field/McVay Track: Home to Football, Track, Soccer, and Lacrosse. Also houses additional training rooms, a press box, the "O" Club room, storage, locker rooms, equipment room, and laundry facilities.
- The Dave and Claudia Lehman Cross Country Course: Home to Cross Country.
- Fishbaugh Field: Home to Baseball.
- Richard A. Sanders Tennis Center: Home to Tennis.
- Cardinal Softball Field: Home to Softball.
- Other Fields: Additional grass fields used for team practices, competitions, camps, and other campus events (Visitor Information, 2017).
